A fire on December 7, 1906 at the Chi Psi fraternity house took the lives of 3 Ithaca firefighters.  The fire at 810 University Ave caused a wall to collapse on top of and killed John C. Rumsey (Company 5), Esty J. Landon (Company 4) and Alfred S. Robinson (Company 3).

4 students were also killed.  They were W.W. Nichols (Chicago, IL), F.W. Grelle (Orange, NJ), O.L. Schmuck (Hanover, PA) and J.M. McCuthchen (Pittsburg, PA).
